ABOUT JAY GREENE

JAY GREENE, ESQ

How My Family's Experience Shaped My Practice

I am Attorney Jay Greene, Esq., CPA, founding attorney of Greene Law Firm, P.C. in Alabama. My commitment to probate, estate planning, elder law, and veterans-related planning was shaped by a personal experience — watching my own family manage my grandparents' affairs without a clear plan in place.

When my grandparents faced serious health challenges and eventually passed away, my parents and their siblings were left to work through legal, financial, and personal decisions without written guidance. The experience brought extra stress, additional costs, and uncertainty because no one could say with confidence what my grandparents had intended.

That experience gave me a firsthand understanding of how the absence of planning touches not just paperwork and legal filings, but also the relationships and dynamics within a family. It is what drives my focus on helping other families prepare — so that, where possible, they can avoid similar confusion and conflict.

Legal, Accounting, and Veterans-Related Background

I have practiced law since 2008, with a consistent focus on probate and estate planning. Before entering the law, I became a Certified Public Accountant after earning a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master's degree in accountancy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, followed by my Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law.

As both an attorney and a CPA, I help clients understand how taxes, benefits, and legal structures can interact in estate and long-term planning. This perspective is especially relevant when planning for long-term care or coordinating multiple benefit programs.

I also assist veterans, military families, and surviving spouses with planning that involves veterans' disability compensation and related VA benefits. This often includes coordinating VA benefits with Medicaid, other public benefit programs, and Alabama-specific estate plans.

Clear, Educational Guidance

A central part of my approach is education. I work to explain Alabama probate, estate planning, long-term care, and veterans-related issues in language that clients and their families can genuinely understand.

I assist clients with wills, revocable living trusts, powers of attorney, health-care proxies, advance directives, and trust administration. I also represent personal representatives and others in probate and estate administration matters, and I advise on guardianships, conservatorships, asset protection, and Medicaid planning.
